  • Lone Loon On Luminous Sea

A common loon surfaces after a fishing dive off the shore of Marine Park in Bellingham, WA.

Growing up in Michigan, I always thought of loons as lake birds. In summer, pairs would choose a lake to raise their young on, and on quiet summer nights you could hear their haunting loon call across the water if you were lucky. If you were even luckier, you’d get a chance to capture some fine art loon photography.  However, when the lakes froze over, the loons were nowhere to be seen.

I was surprised the first time I saw loons on Bellingham Bay, but learned that in the winter they migrate to the coasts where the water never freezes. This give them the opportunity to fish even in freezing weather, and it gives nature and wildlife photographers like me the opportunity to create beautiful loon photography wall art décor.

The dreamy texture of the golden waves in this Pacific Northwest nature photography print look almost the way fine art paintings do, and the glowing sunlight on the water adds much needed sunshine to get us through the grey Pacific Northwest winters. Loons migrate to the coast for winter and I gravitate toward colorful Northwest nature and wildlife photography art prints to warm my soul in winter.
